Hewitt’s Garden Center to Host Team CJs Cookout for a Cure
GLENMONT, NY, May 22, 2012 – Hewitt’s Garden Center in Glenmont will host Team CJs Cookout for a Cure on Saturday, June 16th, from 11:00am to 5:00pm. The Cookout will be held at Hewitt’s Garden Center, 605 Feura Bush Road.
Matchless Stove & Chimney, a specialty hearth and barbeque retailer in the Capital Area, is proud to sponsor Team CJs Cookout for a Cure. The Cookout for a Cure is designed to raise awareness and funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
“We will be serving chips, soda, and grilling up hot dogs and burgers on our Saber grills,” says Sara Madden, Public Relations Coordinator at Matchless. “It will really be an excellent opportunity for our neighbors and friends in the community to stop by, make a donation and make a difference in the lives of kids like CJ!”
Christopher “CJ” Motta was born in February of 2010. At two weeks of age, he was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis, a life-threatening genetic disease. CJs family and friends came together to form “Team CJ” to help raise awareness and funds for research to help find a cure for this devastating disease.
“Since 2010 Team CJ has raised over $29,000.00 to date by holding several types of fundraisers around the Capital District. This year alone we have raised over $10,000.00,” says Tracy Van Hattum, CJs mother, and a founding member of Team CJ. “Cookout for a Cure is an event that the whole family can enjoy, and all proceeds raised will benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. We hope to come even closer to the dream of making CF stand for “Cure Found!”

According to Van Hattum, Team CJ is just shy of their goal to raise $12,000 in 2012 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Cystic Fibrosis is an inherited genetic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is the world’s leader in the search for a cure for Cystic Fibrosis, funding more CF research than any other organization.
“We would love to see a cure in the near future,” Van Hattum says. “Not only for CJ, but for other families going through this terrible disease!”
Based on the community’s response to Team CJs Second Annual Cuts for a Cause in March, and Monday’s at Mingle, Dining for a Cause in April, Team CJ anticipates that the Cookout for a Cure will draw many friends and family members to Hewitt’s for the fundraiser. Hewitt’s is excited to be part of making a difference in the lives of those suffering from Cystic Fibrosis through the Cookout.
“We’re encouraging everyone to bring their family and friends to Hewitt’s on June 16th,” says Jason Thorton, Store Manager of Hewitt’s in Glenmont. “It’s a simple way to help Team CJ hit their goal for this year, and to help CJ and others like him win the fight against Cystic Fibrosis.”
Each person who stops by to show their support can enjoy a hot dog or burger, along with chips and choice of drink for $5. And 100% of all Cookout proceeds will go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
